The Office of Communications exists to preach the Gospel with the heart of Jesus, through the voice and spirit of the bishop, to inform, inspire, evangelize, and celebrate the people of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux across all media platforms with a consistent voice and brand that encourages growth in discipleship.
The Writer and Content Developer for the Office of Communications is responsible for researching, writing, and editing copy on all diocesan communication platforms.
The Writer and Content Developer will manage relationships with freelance writers as needed.
This position is involved in the continuous discernment of diocesan communication strategies, content, and the execution of the goals that come from said discernment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING FOR THE WRITER AND CONTENT DEVELOPER:
(Other duties may be assigned) Responsible for writing and proofing copy for all diocesan social media, websites, Bayou Catholic publication, print media, and email communication.
Responsible for ongoing research of content applicable to the Catholic faithful in our area.
Including, but not limited to:
Catholic news, local news and events, and national news as it relates to the Church.
Assists and serves other diocesan offices, parishes, and schools in writing copy for communications projects.
Creates, writes, and edits content for the Bayou Catholic publication.
Oversees relationships with freelance writers for the Bayou Catholic publication.
Assists in the production of photo/video when needed, including setup, filming, photoshoot, breakdown, and editing.
Assists in graphic design projects when needed.
Responsible for proofing copy on all diocesan communications for grammar and content.
Contributes to continuous discernment of diocesan communication strategy and content.
THIS POSITION SUPERVISES:
None QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's in Mass Communications, Journalism, or the like preferred Experience in publication writing is required.
Experience in technical and creative writing is required.
Experience in copyediting is required.
Experience in writing with a Catholic worldview is preferred.
Experience in graphic design preferred.
Other Skills and Requirements:
Must be able to successfully pass Safe Environment training.
Must be able to communicate clearly to all by phone, verbally, and in written form.
Extensive computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Office, Adobe, and web-based applications.
Must have working knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and X.
Ability to work in an office environment with or without interruptions.
Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods with repetitive hand motions.
Ability to travel in one's own vehicle within the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux for work-related trips including but not limited to interviews, site visits, and diocesan events.
Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings and values.
Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church.
Ability to speak on behalf of the Catholic Church.
Ability to collaborate and work in a team setting.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive situations and documents/ records.
Ability to travel to assist with photo/video production when needed with potential outside work.
Work Schedule:
35 hours/ week; 8:
30 AM to 4:
30 PM, Monday through Friday Weekend work will be as needed.
